Brazil seeks Turkey trade (Sylodium, Free Import-Export directory)

Grupo Pão de Açúcar (GPA), South America's largest retailer, is looking into importing food items from Turkish providers, according to the Sao Paulo-based Turkish-Brazilian Businessmen's Association (CCITB).

In the food sector, Turkey currently sells dried fruit and nuts to Brazil and buys coffee, sugar, soybeans and red meat from the South American country. The CCITB's Ali Sipahi says a possible trade deal in the retail sector would help diversify Turkey's imported goods to Brazil. “We are expecting to see new meetings between the businessmen of the two countries evolve into a strategic partnership in the long run.”

GPA has approximately 2,000 retail stores in Brazil. The group reported a third-quarter profit of $165 million, up 70 percent from a year earlier. French group Casino Guichard-Perrachon took control of GPA in June of last year.
