Fast-growing trade between BRIC countries has been boosted by an expanding middle class, despite of being far from a cohesive bloc. 

In the past decade, trade between the BRICs and North America, Europe and Japan has grown by almost 300%, but trade between the BRIC nations themselves has increased spectacularly by 1,000%. Most of the intra-BRIC trade has been between China and every other country, so China has been the key player among the BRICs.  In fact, Three of the four BRIC countries have a BRIC counterpart as one of their top trading partners, what have important consequences for Western and Japanese multinationals, that will have to change towards a new business model, forgetting low cost in emerging markets, and high margins in developed countries, and further competing strongly with multinationals of BRIC countries.
